MOPAR 8.0L 1973 Plymouth Barracuda 2 x door Hardtop Coupe which was imported into NZ from the USA and registered here in June 2016.
The vehicle has undergone extensive updates include having had the original small block 318 2xbbl engine and drivetrain replaced with a 496 ci motor and associated mechanicals. Much of this work has been undertaken by local MOPAR experts, West Auckland Engine Reconditioners
The car was totally rebuilt/refurbished including having the body completely stripped with new metal being fitted where required and repairs to the remainder. The result is an impeccably finished body shell with excellent panel gaps and shut lines being evident. The paint looks to be flawless and the colour is an eye-catching metallic green known as Atomic Green with a bonnet blackout providing contrast. Several subtle custom touches have been applied including turning the previously decorative hood scoops into functional operating items, smoothing off the valances, and extending the small US number plate recesses into a size to more comfortably accommodate the larger NZ plates. Mini tubs are fitted to the rear and the bumpers have been flush fitted. Brightwork is excellent as are the head and taillights and the grille. The exterior package is finished off with large 19f and 20r DTM Shine wheels.
The interior has also received a full custom retrim and features deep bolstered Recaro race style seats. These are in as new condition as are the door cards, carpets and headlining. The dash has a custom instrumentation cluster with Auto Meter gauges fitted. There is a Grant steering wheel fitted to a Billet Specialties column and a custom centre console houses a B&M Shifter. Sanyo audio ICE is installed.
Mechanically, the vehicle boasts a fully worked big block 496ci Mopar unit coupled to a modified Torqueflite Transmission driving a strengthened Detroit locker diff. Suspension and brakes have also received considerable upgrades to cope with the power and performance of this car.
From the rebuild of the body right through to the full repair/replacement of all major items this appears to have been a no expenses spared
