1937 Hudson Terraplane Custom Tail-Dragger One-Off NZ Build
A truly unique, six-year custom build based on the rare 1937 Hudson Terraplane, chosen for its iconic grille and distinctive lines. This is not a restored car, but a fully re-imagined tail-dragger built to an exceptionally high standard, blending craftsmanship, engineering, and artistry.
The body has undergone extensive metalwork, including a dramatic roof chop (approx. 4 front / 6 rear), reshaped rear panels, shaved handles and hinges, and custom-fabricated running boards and fender skirts for a smooth, flowing profile.
Sitting low on air, the stance is achieved via a 12 C-notch, custom four-link rear suspension with Watts link, Ford 9-inch diff, Jaguar XJS front clip, and Slam Specialties airbags at all four corners allowing the chassis to lay frame.
Power comes from a smooth, reliable L77 V8 paired with a 6L80E automatic, tuned for effortless cruising. Cooling and chassis strengthening have been comprehensively upgraded, and despite the extensive modifications, the car retains four seats and usable boot space.
Finished in a bespoke House of Kolor Brandywine and Candy Apple Red, with intricate hand-laid pinstriping and lacing, buried under multiple layers of clear and ceramic coated. The depth and gloss are exceptional.
