This 1957 Ford Fairlane hardtop retractable was imported from Oregon, USA, into Marlborough on the top of the South Island as a restoration project, lacking the engine, in late 1999. The car was then sold to a new owner in Nelson.

A reconditioned 312Y block Thunderbird special engine was sourced from Wellington, and from there, the ground-up restoration began. All the running gear was rebuilt, the chassis sandblasted, and repainted, as shown in the email pictures our client have supplied.

It was later sold to his father in 2009, who continued with the restoration using Southern Mustang & Karpaintz Auto Refinishers for most of the paint and panel work, in addition to his own expertise as a motor mechanic by trade. Due to illness, our client's father decided to sell the Fairlane in August-September 2016, at which point he acquired it, likely 90% completed. He then completed and made a few modifications to the car to enhance its usability.
