1957 Land Rover Series I 88-inch New Zealand Assembled, Fully Rebuilt

This 1957 Land Rover Series I 88-inch is a rare New Zealand assembled example, first registered on 8 July 1957, and presented in outstanding condition following a comprehensive restoration.

The vehicle underwent a full rebuild in 2005 by Brian Bicmore of Motueka, at a cost of $25,000 plus labour. Brian emigrated to New Zealand after a long career in the UK motor industry, including extensive experience with Land Rover. He has restored numerous vehicles and is well regarded for both full-scale and detailed scale builds. Documentation supporting the rebuild is included.

Originally, 1957 Series I models were offered with either a 2.0-litre petrol or 2.0-litre diesel engine. During the rebuild, Brian elected to install a later 2.2-litre diesel engine, bored out for improved drivability, while retaining compatibility with the original chassis mounts and exhaust system. This upgrade remains period-correct in appearance and function.

Since the rebuild, the vehicle has travelled just 2,700 miles.
