A beautifully restored, matching-numbers Porsche 912 that captures the purity and balance that defined Porsches early success.
Introduced as a more accessible alternative to the 911, the Porsche 912 combined familiar 911 styling with the proven 1.6-litre air-cooled flat-four from the 356C. Lighter over the rear axle and more forgiving at the limit, the 912 quickly developed a reputation for balance, steering feel and real-world drivabilityqualities that continue to define its appeal today.
This example was produced in Germany and sold new in the United States before being imported to New Zealand. Finished in red, it presents with a clean title and matching-numbers engine and gearbox correctly aligned to the chassis. At the time of purchase in Christchurch, the car showed approximately 90,000 miles and is understood to be only the fourth or fifth owner from new.
Significant mechanical investment has been made, with over $30,000 spent on a comprehensive engine rebuild by AER Invercargill. Work included a full overhaul, line boring, new pistons and sleeves, and the fitment of two new cylinder heads. An electric fuel pump upgrade has also been completed, improving reliability while retaining period character. Total spend post-purchase is approximately $40,000.
On the road, the 912 delivers exactly what it promiseslight steering, excellent balance and a mechanical, air-cooled soundtrack that encourages driver engagement rather than outright speed. The long-throw manual gearbox adds to the tactile experience, making it a car that rewards involvement at every pace.
The car has received very positive feedback when previously displayed at the Ayrburn event and has also featured in print media, with a magazine article available upon request
