The Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.5-16 Cosworth in Blue Black Metalic

The Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.5-16 Cosworth, often referred to as the "2.5-16 Cosworth," is a high-performance version of the W201 190E sedan, developed in collaboration with Cosworth. It features a 2.5-litre inline-four engine with a 16-valve cylinder head, producing around 195 HP.

The 2.5-16 was developed for homologation purposes, meaning it was built in limited numbers to meet racing regulations.

This model was only produced from 1988 to 1993, with a total of 5,743 units ever built. The automatics being an absolute rarity. This particular model made automatic by request in the UK, was brought back to New Zealand in 1991 and has been with the same owner / family from 1989 to 2025. 36 years of ownership.

This is an extremely rare model and a few things worth noting that separates this 2.5L from the 2.3-16 being an enlarged 2.5 L engine replaced the 2.3 L in 1988. It offered double-row timing chains to fix the easily snapping single chains on early 2.3 engines, and increased peak output by 19 hp. strictly four-seater interior had standard sport size seats with strong side bolsters for front and rear passengers. Three extra dials - an oil temperature gauge, stopwatch and voltmeter - were included in the centre console. The 190 E 2.3-16 was available in only two colours, Blue-Black metallic (Pearl Black in the US), and Smoke Silver. The 2.5-16 added Almandine Red and Astral Silver.
