1997 Mazda Rx-7 FD3S 30th Anniversary Rare Limited Edition Model

Mazda introduced its first production rotary-engined car, the Cosmo Sport 110S, in 1967. So 1997 marked 30 years of Mazda production rotary engines.

Mazda created the RX-7 Type RS-R as a limited-edition celebration of that milestone. Only 500 were produced for Japan. ( 1 of 250 in Black )

The differences from the Factory were

- The RS-R received Bilstein performance dampers, intended to improve handling and stability
- It also received higher-performance tyres, again aimed at improving grip and handling
- Came with Special Edition RSR wheels 17" Gunmetal Grey
- Only came in two Colours Brilliant Black and Sunburst Yellow
- The RS-R received a specific meter/instrument-panel design, another detail distinguishing it from an ordinary RS.
- This is a cool little detail that gets overlooked. The driver's seat had a knee pad on the door side as well as the centre-console side. The idea was to help hold the driver in position during hard cornering.

Type RS

Type RZ more hardcore, lightweight, driver-focused

Type RS-R based on RS, but borrowing RZ performance equipment for the 30th-anniversary edition.
